Windows Service Management

The Services control panel applet is pretty handy for starting, stopping or otherwise configuring the services on your Windows operating system. That said, every now and again, as a software developer, I have to install or remove a service that I’m working on. Here’s how:

Windows comes with a pretty nifty SC command line tool which allows all manner of configuration options for services.

For example, to install a service:

sc create <service name> ...

You can also remove or delete a service by:

sc delete <service name>

Check out the documentation for other uses, of which there are many.
